Valheim: manage dedicated-server admins, bans and the whitelist

Three text files control permissions; adding a whitelist entry excludes everyone not listed.

Valheim: sailing boat on the water among ice and snowfall

Valheim’s dedicated server keeps permissions in three files in the default save directory. Entries use platform IDs rather than the visible character name.

Choose the right file

  • adminlist.txt grants administrator permissions.
  • bannedlist.txt blocks players.
  • permittedlist.txt limits access to explicitly listed players.

Add the platform ID

  1. Find the Platform User ID in the server log or the in-game F2 panel.
  2. Use the format [Platform]_[User ID], preserving its letter case.
  3. Enter one ID per line in the appropriate file.

Adding someone to the whitelist excludes everyone else. List the whole intended group. Kick removes a player from the session; Ban blocks them.
