Valheim 1.0.17 Fixes Deleted World Objects

The hotfix protects large save-chunk splitting. Platforms receive it at different times; Iron Gate says crossplay remains possible.

Large Save Chunk; Safe Splitting; Objects Retained

Valheim patch 1.0.17 fixes a rare issue where splitting a large world chunk could delete objects in parts of the world. This follows the save-format change in 1.0 and is more significant than a purely visual issue.

Iron Gate also corrects invalid item variants, including a Shield of Roots variant available on PlayStation 5. Invalid styles reset to the default so the item functions normally again. Placeholder text and credits hidden in 1.0.16 receive fixes too.

Distinguish Three Types of Issue

Earlier patches addressed duplicate terrain areas and reset changes in the Deep North. Visible terrain seams may require manual work with a pickaxe, hoe or walking over snow. That appearance is not automatically the same problem as deleted world objects.

Lost levels and variants of items on stands are separate too. Iron Gate explains that faulty 1.0 conversion lost their data. Version 1.0.12 prevents this in new conversions but does not simply reconstruct every already damaged world.

The developer identifies an old backup as the starting point. A complete reset, however, loses newer world progress. Valheim 1.0: Recover Lost Item Levels From a Backup explains carrying affected items from a backup copy into the current world using your character.

The studio says delivery of 1.0.17 across all platforms takes several days, while crossplay should remain available. In this specific rollout, a different displayed platform version therefore does not automatically mean the group must play separately.
