7 Days to Die 3.3 Is Stable: Backpacks Expand Inventory to 96 Slots

The new base grid has 48 slots. Added backpack slots initially cause encumbrance; Pack Mule and Pocket Mods remain relevant.

7 Days to Die: official scene from the Steam product gallery

The Fun Pimps released 3.3.0 as Stable. Base inventory changes from the old nine-by-five grid to eight by six. Its forty-eight slots comprise four rows without encumbrance and two encumbered rows.

Small, medium and large backpacks each have six quality tiers. Equipped in a dedicated Backpack slot, they can expand inventory to eight by twelve, or ninety-six slots.

More Space Does Not Automatically Mean Less Encumbrance

Backpacks explicitly add Encumbrance slots. Pack Mule and Armor Pocket Mods remove encumbrance. Considering maximum slot count alone therefore lets you carry more without necessarily retaining the same movement comfort.

Version 3.3 fixes several Experimental issues too. Dedicated-server vehicles check their contents again when picked up; death while reloading is addressed. Duplicate equipment should no longer appear in the relevant Drop on Death mode.

The Stable list still includes known issues. Campfire items must first move into a backpack before consumption. Certain language and joining problems are listed for Mac. Experimental issues and Stable fixes should not be treated as one unchanged list.

7 Days to Die 3.3: Distinguish Backpack Slots and Encumbrance explains the practical differences. Switching to latest_experimental from an older announcement is no longer required to install the Stable version.
