Valheim reaches the Deep North with version 1.0. Iron Gate lists more than forty weapons, four armour sets, over eighty building pieces and more than twenty foods. The new boss is Kall Fimbulbringer. New creatures include a tameable, rideable elk.
The expansion also affects movement through the world. Clear deep snow before building and approach frozen water cautiously. A Grappling Hook helps overcome heights. Alternative versions of earlier biomes can appear near the world’s outer edges.
More Than New Equipment
Haldor offers inventory improvements. New idols and a hidden forge provide additional item upgrades. Existing characters therefore progress through more than crafting an entirely new weapon.
Building additions include drawbridges, Timber and Scalewood pieces and furniture. Hammer and Serving Tray menus are revised. The interface can optionally display a piece’s builder, helping organise shared bases.
The new save system splits world data into smaller chunks, aiming to process less data per write and better withstand interrupted writes. Later hotfixes nevertheless show that such a migration can have bugs: current patches and independent backups remain relevant for old worlds.
Iron Gate also changes Ashlands spawn chances, increases certain equipment durability and expands mist clearing by Mistlands weapons. The new Draw Distance option changes simulation distance. Greater distance can increase load; patch notes do not establish an FPS figure for your computer.
Before first overwriting an existing world, read Valheim 1.0: Recover Lost Item Levels From a Backup. It distinguishes the corrected conversion bug from item data already lost.
